More tax credit for home buyers in Georgia, also use the $8000 federal credit as down payment at closing...
Governor Sonny Purdue signed HB261 this week allowing for a tax credit for buyers purchasing homes from June 1, 2009 for the following 6 months. It is calculated based on 1.2% of the homes purchase price, up to a maximum of $1,800. This credit will reduce tax liability, any excess that remains after it is claimed in '09 will roll over to next year. This is available on new homes and some resales and foreclosures but is not limited to first time buyers. Check with your Realtor to make sure the home you are purchasing is eligible.
