April 30, 2010 is the dead line for buyers, first-time and repeat, to be udner contract and qualify for the $6,500-$8,000 tax credits. Buyers still have 2 months to close on the transaction, from the end of April. In order to claim this tax credit, that does not have to be repaid, you must purchase a property before the specified deadline and keep the closing documents for your tax preparer. If you have already filed for 2009 you can file an amendment in order to go ahead and get that started or hold off until 2010 which ever year is best for you.
